Phillip Stoneman

Hello, my name is Phillip Stoneman (Phil) and I love telling stories.

For over a decade I’ve been crafting audio and producing radio programmes at every hour of the schedule, across all forms of radio and on-demand audio.

Soundscaping and audio-editing is second-nature, having spent many years as BBC Hereford & Worcester’s station sound producer – with creating trails, jingles, verbals and podcasts – including the true-crime series The Body in the Tree and local history series Secret Herefordshire and Secret Worcestershire. I regularly step up to produce BBC Hereford & Worcester’s breakfast show, having previously run the Afternoon and Evening programmes.

I’m comfortable in any studio. This regularly includes producing, driving outside broadcasts and presenting – including scripting and reading travel and news bulletins, as well as hosting stages at events.

Championing emerging creatives in the local area is something I adore, having produced local radio shows across several radio stations. For comedians, filmmakers, poets, podcasters and spoken word artists across Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, Cheshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Coventry and Warwickshire – I support them on the BBC Upload programme. For musicians in Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire – I support them on BBC Introducing, championing them for local and national airplay as well as huge festival opportunities.

I’ve been based in the West Midlands for a decade (I’m originally from Devon #creamfirst). I studied Economics at the University of Warwick, when I joined its student radio station and fell in love with the medium of radio.

I’m happy to get my hands stuck in and be parachuted in – whether it’s putting up gazebos or managing programme templates, graphic design, music reporting, transmitter switching and solving problems.

When I’m not at the BBC you can find me baking homemade shortbread at home, volunteering at BHBN Radio (Birmingham’s hospital radio station) and helping Duke of Edinburgh Award participants at local schools.
